Four area residents were injured in a head-on collision that happened Friday afternoon around 4:25 p.m. on U.S. Route 66 in Montgomery County, according to Illinois State Police.
Police report the accident happened when Georgia Weidler, 83 of Mt. Olive, attempted to pass a vehicle when she struck a Ford Taurus head-on driven by Joseph Faulkner, 30 of Staunton. Weidler was the only passenger in her Toyota Camry as she was traveling in the northbound lane while Faulkner had two passengers while traveling southbound.
Passengers in Faulkner’s vehicle included a one-year-old male juvenile of Staunton and Taylor Richards, 24 of Staunton. State Police said both Faulkner and Richards were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident and were airlifted to a local trauma center with serious injuries.
Weidler was transported to a local hospital with “moderate injuries” while the one-year-old was also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
