The next series of mind-body health classes at HSHS St. Francis Hospital begin July 16, 2018. Two classes will be held each Monday through August 27.
Healthy Steps: Moving You to Greater Health
This class uses therapeutic movement done to music to improve overall wellness, range of motion, balance, strength, endurance and self-image. It is suitable for anyone regardless of health, age or ability level. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring water. If you are being treated for a medical condition, please have your doctor give you written permission to participate in the class. The next class series is held on Mondays July 16 – August 27 (no class on August 13) from 1:30-3 p.m. in the hospital auditorium. The fee is $10.
Harnessing the Power of the Positive
The field of neuroscience has discovered that the thoughts people think and the experiences they focus on can change the shape of the brain and its neural pathways. Neurons that fire together, wire together. The bad news is that those who focus on negative experiences and negative patterns of thought may be setting themselves up for stress-related illnesses, cardio-vascular disease, cancer, chronic back pain, obesity, and weakening of the immune system. This class will focus on the good news that it is possible “rewire” the brain so that one’s mental states are more positive. People who focus on the positive have greater resilience in the face of the stresses of life and move though life in a greater state of relaxation. The next class series is held on Mondays July 16 – August 27 from 4:15 – 5:30 p.m. in the hospital auditorium. The fee is $10.
Bridget Rolens, M.A., BSOT is the program facilitator and the Mind-Body Health Services educator at HSHS St. Francis Hospital. She holds a bachelor of science in occupational therapy and a master of arts in theology. She has certifications as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) teacher and as a Healthy Steps trainer. She has completed the Core Coach Training program through Wellcoaches7 School of Coaching. Over 40 years of experience in traditional health care, mind-body medicine and a variety of meditation practices have given Bridget a strong understanding of the connection between body, mind and spirit in promoting health and well-being.
