First responders spent Friday morning at the scene of a single-vehicle accident on Quarry Road, north of Gillespie.
Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl said a 1999 Ford Ranger pick-up truck was traveling west on Quarry Road when the driver reported a rear tire blowing out around 7:30 a.m. The vehicle then rolled and came to rest in a ditch on the south side of the road approximately a quarter-mile east of Illinois Route 4.
Kahl said the driver was 17-year-old James Timpe and his passenger was 17-year-old Anthony Richardson. Richardson was taken to the hospital by Gillespie-Benld Area Ambulance Service.
Assisting Macoupin County Sheriff deputies on-scene included Illinois State Police, Gillespie Police Department, Gillespie Fire Department, and Gillespie-Benld Area Ambulance Service.
The accident was under investigation by the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office at the time of publication.
