Gillespie advanced to Saturday’s regional championship with a 6-0 victory over Litchfield on Wednesday afternoon thanks to a shutout victory from junior pitcher Addison Bryant. The championship will be played at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Gillespie’s field south of Ben-Gil Elementary School.
Bryant pitched all seven innings against the Panthers recording 11 strikeouts and surrendering only a single hit in the contest. She also went 3-4 at the plate tripling in the third inning and hitting singles in the first and sixth innings.
The Miners scored one run in the third inning, one in the fourth and then three in the fifth before topping it off with another run in the sixth inning for the victory. The team recorded eight hits against Litchfield, who they beat twice earlier in the season – 6-0 in April and 11-1 about one month ago.
Mackenzie Kasarda racked up two RBIs for the team with her homerun in the fifth inning.
