A vehicle was struck and a 67-year-old Plainview man was killed on Thursday, November 7 when his vehicle was hit by a freight train before witnesses could remove the man from his vehicle, authorities said.
The Macoupin County Coroner’s Office said in a statement they were notified at 5:06 p.m. on Thursday of a train versus vehicle accident in Plainview with one fatality. Coroner Brad Targhetta identified the victim as Ronald Vallery, 67, Plainview, and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:32 p.m.
Vallery’s vehicle was traveling south on the Plainview Blacktop when it left the roadway and overturned until it came to a stop on its wheels. The vehicle continued in the railroad right of way until it came to a rest on the railroad tracks. A northbound freight train approached and impacted the vehicle before witnesses could remove Ronald from his vehicle.
An autopsy is scheduled and no funeral home information was available at the time of publication.
