Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday morning their office and the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating a fatal car versus motorcycle accident that happened Thursday evening in rural Mt. Olive.
The accident happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, on Litchfield Trail in rural Mt. Olive when a 2014 Chevrolet Impala struck a Honda CR250 dirt bike.
Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl said the Impala was traveling at a “high rate of speed” southbound while the dirt bike motorcycle was heading northbound. The Impala was being driven by a 16-year-old male juvenile while the dirt bike was driven by a 21-year-old male.
Both males were transported by ARCH helicopter to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield where the 21-year-old motorycle victim succumbed to his injuries and passed away at 8:03 p.m.
The Macoupin County Coroner’s Office had yet to release the identity of the motorcycle victim at the time of publication while the identity of the 16-year-old Impala driver was withheld due to his age.
“After the investigation is complete, reports will be sent to the Macoupin County States Attorney’s Office for possible charges,” Sheriff Shawn Kahl concluded.
