A police pursuit that crossed into Macoupin County on Monday afternoon, November 5, ultimately came to an end near Greenville when police used spike strips to disable the vehicle.
Illinois State Police announced on Tuesday that Illinois State Police and Bond County deputies took Christopher S. McCartney, 35 of Clinton, MO, into custody Monday afternoon after police successfully disabled his Ford F-150 vehicle on Illinois Route 140 east of Greenville. He remains in custody and formal charges are pending in Montgomery and Bond counties.
The pursuit started in Montgomery County when a deputy attempted to stop the vehicle for suspicious activity and reckless driving but police report the vehicle refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
Illinois State Police District 18 troopers joined the pursuit because of the reckless and erratic driving following the vehicle through Montgomery, Macoupin and Bond counties.
