A 44-year-old Sawyerville man has died following an auto-pedestrian accident on Route 4 south of Benld that happened just before 5 p.m. on Friday, November 22.
According to Master Sergeant David Brunnworth of Illinois State Police District 18, a pedestrian was struck in the roadway by a northbound 2005 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Ricky Gaston, 58 of Staunton. The pedestrian, Brian Cox, 44 of Sawyerville, died at the scene as a result of the injuries.
The Macoupin County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene at 5:19 p.m. and said Cox had been out of his vehicle reportedly attempting to remove a goose from the roadway.
The accident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit and toxicology results are pending. Kravanya Funeral Home in Benld is assisting the Cox family with the funeral arrangements.
