Gillespie CUSD #7
With the first day of school less than a month away, members of the Community Unit School District 7 Board of Education accepted the resignations of three professional staff members during a special meeting of the board last Thursday night.
The board also voted unanimously to hire Alex Weinberg, Gillespie, as a chorus teacher for the 2018-19 school year. Weinberg previously was teaching in the Southwestern-Piasa School District. In addition, the board hired Nicole Katich, Gillespie, as a paraprofessional (classroom aide).
Resignations were accepted from art teacher Lee Harrison, middle school language arts teacher Tara Allen, and Shonda Ronen, a Response to Intervention (RTI) coordinator the board hired in May for the coming school year. The board posted vacancies for all three position and expects to fill them during a special meeting of the board scheduled for this Thursday.
Harrison, Morrisonville, was hired last year and has accepted an administrative position in the Morrisonville School District. Allen, who has taught in Gillespie for five years, has accepted an administrative position with the North Mac School District, Virden-Girard. Allen also resigned her spot as a girl’s assistant soccer coach.
Ronen was hired in May for a newly created RTI coordinator position made possible by an influx of $680,000 in new funding resulting from the state’s Evidence-Based Funding formula. She has since accepted an administrative position with the Bunker Hill School District. She had not yet begun her duties with CUSD 7.
