With the start of the school year looming a week away, members of the Community Unit School District 7 Board of Education voted unanimously during a special meeting Monday night to hire Jill Strole, Marine, as a high school/middle school guidance counselor.
The action followed a 30-minute executive session to discuss personnel.
Strole will step into a vacancy created by the resignation last month of Kalli Erwin who had served as a district guidance counselor for the past five years. Supt. Joe Tieman said Strole was selected from among five applicants for the position.
Upon returning to open session, Dennis Tiburzi moved to hire Strole for the 2019-2020 school, pending a routine background check and confirmation of certification as required by law. Don Dobrino seconded the motion and all four members present voted in favor.
In addition to Tiburzi and Dobrino, Board President Mark Hayes and Weye Schmidt attended the meeting to comprise a quorum. Bill Carter, Jenni Alepra and Becky Hatlee were unable to attend.
Strole has 20 years of experience as a school counselor and will come to the local school district from the Sandoval School District. She earned a Bachelor of Science with a teaching certificate from Eastern Illinois University and completed a Masters of Science in School Counseling from Illinois State University.
