The summer concert series in Benld is coming to a close with their final two concerts taking place tonight at 7:30 p.m. and next Tuesday. Returning for their third series, Scrap Iron and Gold will rock the stage with their bluegrass and gospel music.
The band kicked off last year’s concert series and had one of the largest crowds last year, and Executive Director Mickey Robinson expects this year to be the same. The seven member band consists of Doug Glenn, banjo; Brenda Oberle, keyboard and vocals; Rick Calvert, lead guitar and lead vocal; Sondra Stallman, fiddle; Ron Lawrence, founder of the band, mandolin and vocals; Sandy Leithauser, keyboard and vocals; and Andy Ritchie, 12 string guitar and vocals.
Founded five years ago in 2009, the band has picked up first place awards at county fairs with their fiery banjo tunes, gospel favorites, sounds of the civil war on fiddle and patriotic favorites.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the concession stand will be selling hot dogs, big smokies, Italian beef, soda and water, and strawberry shortcake sundaes. As always, the concerts and parking is free and dancing is always enjoyed.
