An accident Sunday morning at 6:29 a.m., November 4, on Illinois Route 267 claimed the life of a 35-year-old Jersey County woman.
Macoupin County Chief Deputy Coroner Anthony Kravanya reported Rebecca Droste, 35 of Fidelity, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:22 a.m. The two-vehicle accident happened north of Brighton when a Ford Fusion heading southbound crossed into the incoming lane of traffic striking Droste’s vehicle, according to Illinois State Police.
Jurrell Walker, 29 of Quincy, was the driver of the Ford Fusion and police report he was airlifted to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
The accident and death remain under investigation by the Illinois State Police, Illinois State Police Reconstruction team, and the Macoupin County Coroner’s office.
Gent Funeral Home in Alton is assisting the Droste family with funeral arrangements.
Assisting Illinois State Police and the Macoupin County Coroner’s Office included the Brighton Fire Department, Brighton Police Department, and the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department.
