Three Gillespie football players were chosen to play in the 28th annual West Central Illinois All-star football game that will be played this Saturday, June 11 at 5 p.m. at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School’s west campus in Springfield.
Representing Gillespie are Bryce McKinney, Bobby Carr and Keagan West. All three will be on the south squad wearing red jerseys. McKinney will be wearing #15 playing wide receiver on offense and back on defense, Carr will be wearing #16 playing receiver on offense and back on defense while West will be wearing #38 and playing running back on offense.
The game features 69 senior high school players from the 2015 season representing 25 high schools in West Central Illinois.
Practices began on Monday, June 6 at Carlinville for the south squad and at North Mac for the north squad. Aaron Fricke of Southwestern is coaching the south team and Shan Owsley of North Mac is coaching the north team.
Admission to the game is $5 for adults or students with children under 12 being admitted free of charge. Gates will open at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The north leads the south 13-7 in the all-time series, but the south took home the victory last year winning 28-23 when the game was called early because of lightning with 11:11 remaining in the fourth quarter.
