An early morning accident on Thursday, September 24, claimed the life of a 28-year-old man from Fidelity. The accident happened at 4:37 a.m. at the intersection of Illinois 267 and Illinois 111 in Medora.
Illinois State Police said Benjamin Ruyle, 39, of Medora had crashed in the roadway causing his 2005 GMC pickup truck to become disabled and sitting sideways in the roadway before Matthew Grizzle, 28 of Fidelity, struck the passenger side of the truck in the middle of the roadway.
It was unknown how long Ruyle had crashed prior to Grizzle reaching the intersection where the truck was overturned.
Grizzle was airlifted from the scene and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. He was driving a 2015 Kia sedan at the time of the accident.
Police said Ruyle was also airlifted from the scene of the accident with life-threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit.
