Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl reported on Monday that a Decatur man and an Alton man were being held at the Macoupin County Jail after an attempted burglary in the 9000 block of Brighton Bunker Hill Road in Bunker Hill on Sunday, December 16.
Jerry Nichols, 48 of Decatur, is being charged with armed violence, residential burglary, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon while Fred Skelton, 52 of Alton, is being charged with residential burglary and obstructing justice.
Kahl said the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call around 10:50 a.m. from a neighbor who heard a window break and observed an unknown vehicle at a residence. A deputy was able to quickly detain one subject who was outside the residence and later detained the second individual after a short foot chase.
Nichols is being held on a $250,000 bond while Skelton is being held on a $100,000 bond.
