The Gillespie Miners picked up a 19-0 win against Carlinville on Tuesday, April 30. Gillespie collected 19 runs and 17 RBIs on 11 hits throughout the night.
Bryce Buhs picked up the win on the mound. Buhs put in four innings of work, giving up no hits or runs with nine strikeouts. Widdener pocked the loss for Carlinville, giving up four runs on three hits over two innings.
Bryce Hohnsbehn had a perfect night at the plate, going 2 for 2 with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Jack Kaylor went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 1 run plated. Colin Griffith also had a stellar night in the batter’s box, scoring 1 for 2 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs. Buhs had two hits on the evening, with a homer to center field. Buhs had a total of 4 RBIs in the game. Luke Shuckenbrock, Owen Pau, Jaydon Baker, and Landen Emelander all collected a hit.
The Miners sealed their victory early on in the third inning, putting up 13 runs on the board. Tristen Wargo remained patient at the plate and drew three walks against Carlinville. The defense for Gillespie was locked down, committing no errors in the game.
The Miners took the field against Dupo on Wednesday, May 1, coming out victorious 13-1.
Gillespie showed no mercy to Dupo, scoring seven runs in the first inning alone. Tristen Wargo was on fire in the leadoff spot, going 3 for 4 at the plate with 1 RBI and 2 runs plated. Hohnsben went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 1 base on balls. The Miners collected a total of 10 hits in their winning efforts. Carson Hailstone, Sean Haywood, Daniel Wobler, Griffith, Berry, and Shuckenbrock put a 1 in the hit column.
Owen Schweppe earned the victory on the mound for Gillespie. Schweppe went for three innings, giving up one hit and one run and striking out four. Brody Shaw made an appearance in a relief performance. Shaw gave up one hit, no runs, and struck out three. Dupo was only able to muster up two hits against Gillespie.
The Miners will take the field against Marquette Catholic on Thursday, May 2.
