Elda Emma Bigda, 92, of Santa Monica, CA, formerly of rural Mt. Olive, died Thursday, June 4, 2015, at 10:55 p.m. at Hospice of Southern Illinois in Edwardsville, Illinois. She was born on March 16, 1923, in Litchfield, IL to the late William and Emma (Niehaus) Lowenstein.
She married Joseph John Bigda on September 22, 1973 in Santa Monica, California. He preceded her in death on September 16, 1984. Elda attended Pleasant Hill Grade School in Walshville, Illinois and Venice Adult Education in Venice, California to attain her G.E.D. She was employed by Hughes Aircraft for over 35 years and during that time she was a Material Project Administrator and Provision Engineer.
Elda was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Santa Monica, CA, but she was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, IL. She enjoyed her bible study, loved shopping and gardening and was an avid walker.
She leaves behind two sisters, Clara Lessman of Raymond, IL and Viola Baumann of Hamel, IL; and 6 nieces and 4 nephews.
In addition to her parents, Elda was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph John Bigda; three sisters, Wilma Schuette, Leona Pahlmeyer and Irene Eickmeyer; and one nephew, Larry Schuette.
Visitation services will be on Monday, June 8, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Becker & Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive, IL. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Olive, IL. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Los Angeles, California with Reverend Karl Arthur Wellnitz as clergy.
Following the service, lunch will be held at the Zion Fellowship Hall served by the Zion Ladies. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Olive Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
