James Cecil Wanger, 71, of Litchfield, died Monday, June 8, 2015, at 2:09 p.m. in his home. He was born on May 2, 1944, in Hillsboro, a son of Aloysius Cecil and Frieda Marie (Smock) Wanger. Mr. Wanger was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during peacetime. He was employed as a machine-press operator at Olin in Alton.
Jim embraced the Catholic faith. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed trapshooting, making and re-loading ammunitions and hunting. He especially enjoyed spending lots of time with his grandchildren. He married Margaret Jean “Peggy” Sallee on August 8, 1964, in St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Litchfield.
In addition to his wife, James is also survived by his mother, Frieda Wanger; son, Daniel Wanger; daughters, Diana (Matt) Law of Litchfield and Christa (Fred) Durfee of Lexington, TN; sister, Rita (James) Williams of Butler; six grandchildren, Brian (Amber) Law, Ashley Law (fiancé, Tyler Avery), Chelsey (Cody) Elliott, David Durfee and Eric & Andrew Bindara; and six great-grandchildren, Hunter & Timberly Law, Lillian Avery, Annabella Bindara, Maverick Wanger and Lanie Bindara.
He was preceded in death by his father; son, Mark Wanger and brother, Jerry Wanger.
A memorial visitation will be held Sunday, June 14, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The family suggests memorials to Litchfield Food Pantry or PAWS Care of Montgomery County.
