
Peter A. “Pete” Kocis, 71 of Springfield, died at 6:07 p.m. on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at St. John’s Hospital.
Pete was born April 18, 1952, in Litchfield, the son of Albert Thomas and Betty Virginia Griffith Kocis. He married Janet Kay Allan on April 12, 1975, at Saints Simon and Jude in Gillespie.
Pete graduated from Gillespie High School in 1970 and earned his bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in history at SIUE. He was employed as an insurance underwriter for Franklin Life which later became AIG, retiring in 2008.
Pete was also a scorekeeper for Lincoln Land Community College softball team. He was a member of St. Aloysius Christian Church and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus Council #2076. Pete loved to watch his daughters and grandkids play sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed watching softball and baseball, yardwork, vegetable gardening, and meeting with his “Klatch” at Starbucks.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Kathleen Kocis.
Pete is survived by his wife, Janet Kocis of Springfield; daughters, Nichol (Bill) Antonacci of Springfield and Amanda (Wendy Smith) Kocis of Kewanee; grandchildren, Abbie and Sam Antonacci, both of Springfield; siblings, Phil (Jolene) Kocis of Estero, FL, Paul Kocis of Riverton, Monica (Gene) Beyer of Chatham, and Mary (Larry) Hebert of Springfield; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
A celebration of Pete’s life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at Butler Funeral Home-Springfield, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield, IL. A memorial gathering will follow until 7:00 p.m. A private family inurnment will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
