Death of William A. “Bill” Harding
William A. “Bill” Harding, 86 of Carlinville, passed away on Wednesday evening, September 21, 2022, at his residence. Bill was born on July 5, 1936, in Scottville, IL, on a very hot day of 102 degrees, a son of John Texas and Hazel (Stewart) Harding.
Bill graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1954. On September 7, 1957, he married the love of his life, Lucille Quarton at her parent’s residence in rural Palmyra. Bill moved with his parents and siblings at the age of 11 to the family farm west of Carlinville. He continued farming with his brother Jim after their father passed. He began working off the farm for the United States Postal Service in 1957 and was promoted to Postmaster in 1979, retiring from that position in 1992.
Bill and Lucille purchased Laurel Hill School in 1961 and built their forever home on this site where they raised their family. After retirement from the farm, Bill and Lucille started their own candle business, Country Candles and Crafts where they not only made and sold candles out of their home but enjoyed traveling to craft shows and never knowing a stranger.
Bill continued with his public service by being elected to the Macoupin County Board in 1994 and just resigning from that position in January 2022. Bill also served as the Bird Township Supervisor from 1993-2020. Bill was a faithful and devoted servant to Charity Baptist Church. During that time, he served in many capacities such as Trustee, Deacon, Sunday School Director, and whatever role needed to be filled.
He was also able to participate in mission trips to places such as Haiti to dig wells even as late as the summer before he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma on December 1, 2013. Bill fought Multiple Myeloma 8 years, 9 months, and 21 days, never complaining and never questioning God’s reasoning. Bill was a constant and faithful servant until the day he passed. He was prayer warrior like no other who would drop anything to pray for anybody.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille Harding on September 1 2020; great-grandson, Christopher William Kelley; and brother, Jim Harding.
William is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Gary) Canavan of Carlinville; son, Gary William (Jaylena) Harding of Carlinville; daughter, Anne (Nate) Langham of Greenville; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and another great-granddaughter to be born in November 2022; brother, Kendell (Janet) Harding of Carlinville; sister, Pat Pinick of Blue Springs, MO; sister in law, Geneva (Jim) Frankford; sister in law, Ida Mae Leach; brother in law, Robert (Valerie) Quarton; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Charity Baptist Church in rural Carlinville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the church with Rev. Curt Ebert. Burial will follow in Charity Cemetery, Carlinville.
Serving as pallbearers are Joshua William Harding, Joshua Edwards, Chris Kelley, Greg Crabill, Nick Crabill, Teddy Langham, Ethan Willman, Daniel Edwards and Lucas Langham.

Nancy Ilene Weller, 74, of Gillespie, died at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 2:52 pm. She was born June 4, 1949, in Litchfield, to Charles Giller and Margaret Whitman Giller. She married Kenneth Raymond Weller, Sr., on August 17, 1968, in Litchfield. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2011.
She was a caregiver. Nancy loved horses, reading, and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Chester (Katina) Weller of Gillespie, Luke Weller of Gillespie, Spring Weller (spouse, Phillip Benner) of Fowler, IN, 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, 5 brothers, and sisters.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, 4 brothers, and sisters.

Beverly Kay Brown, 82, of Gillespie, died at Gillespie Health and Rehab Center, Gillespie, on Friday, March 8, 2024, at 8:45 am. She was born October 4, 1941, in Litchfield, to Mario Meldi and Opal Olston Meldi. She married Bob Brown on October 30, 1976.
She worked for the State of Illinois in title transferring and data processing. Beverly enjoyed reading and was an avid reader of People’s magazine.
She is survived by her spouse, Bob Brown of Gillespie, children, Joell (Sid) Flyte of Edwardsville, Jackie (Larry) Fear of The Villages, FL, Kathy Giesler of Mattoon, Kim (Joe) Brittin of Springfield, Jane (Greg) Hallum of Ishpeming, MI, Lori Brown of Temecula, CA, grandchildren, Breanna Leake, Dominique Flyte, Addie Flyte, Bradley Fear, David Fear, Brad Brittin, Melissa Casad, Amanda Kozak, Jaime Galloway, Jaimee Dobson, Jenny Knight, Emily Nault, Elyssa Gregurash, Erin Baldini, many great-grandchildren, brothers, Ron (Corky) Meldi of Nitro, WV, and sisters-in-law, June Swan and Loni Cloyd. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Jedd Hallum, and brother-in-law, Preston Brown.
Friends may call on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Funeral services are Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie. Burial will be at Benld Cemetery.

Darrell Leon Hoffstot, 69, of Gillespie, died at St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield, on Saturday, March 2, 2024. He was born October 2, 1954, in Granite City, to Willard Lee Hoffstot and Hazel Mae Holloway Hoffstot.
He was retired after having been an assembler for Echlin. Darrell enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and water skiing.
He is survived by his sons, Zachary Hoffstot of Mt. Olive, and Zane Hoffstot of Gillespie, and sisters, Sandra Elledge of Litchfield, and Peggy (Joseph) Fischer. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Victor Hoffstot.
