Walter J. “Walt” Rosentreter, 85, of Carlinville, passed away Sunday evening, April 10, 2016, at Heritage Health Care in Carlinville. He was born on March 8, 1931, to Peter and Christina (Bomkamp) Rosentreter in Carlinville. He served in the United States Air National Guard during the Korean War. Walt married Mary H. Skertich on July 18, 1853, at St. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Gillespie and she survives.
Walt worked as a farmer in the Carlinville area and later owned and operated Rosentreter Body Shop. He also worked as a car salesman for Bates Motor Company, retiring in 1993. Walt was a member of Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville, the Knights of Columbus, Carlinville Elks Lodge #1412 being named the Exalted Ruler and Elk of the year in 1986, American Legion Guy Baird Post 554, the Ford Retractable Club and the Nifty Fifty Group. He loved woodworking, stained glass and refurbishing cars. Walt was the proud owner of a 1959 Retractable.
Walt is survived by his wife, Mary H. Rosentreter of Carlinville; two daughters, Renee A. (Rick) Moore of Columbia, IL and Denise L. (David) Boente of Carlinville; five grandsons, Kent (Kristi) Johnson, Eric Johnson (fiancée, India Blevins), Kyle (Alisha) Moore, Ryan (Charline) Boente and Sean (Kali) Boente; two granddaughters, Lindsay (Collin) Moore and Melissa (Dave) Suits; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Leo) Kalaher of Carlinville and several nieces and nephews.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kerri Johnson, as well as two sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville with a prayer service being conducted at 3:45 p.m. Following visitation, the Elks Ritual will be performed by the Calinville lodge #1412. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Carlinville with Rev. Dean Probst officiating. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville Area Hospital or the Macoupin Center for the Developmentally Disabled.
