An officer was dispatched to a business in the 100 block of South Hard Road in Mt. Clare in reference to a found item.
An officer initiated a traffic stop at Broadway Street and Oregon Street. Yordan-Jose Bermudez-Pirela, 31 of Harvey, was issued citations for speeding, uninsured vehicle, operating vehicle when registration is suspended, improper use of registration, and expired registration.

An officer was dispatched to the 600 block of Edwards Street in reference to criminal damage to property.
An officer initiated a traffic stop at East Locust Street and North 2nd Street in Benld. Carrie L. Malarik, 41 of Benld, was issued citations for failure to disobey a stop sign, operating uninsured vehicle, driving while license was suspended, operating motor vehicle while registration is suspended, and expired registration.
An officer initiated a traffic stop at Hard Road and Central Avenue in Benld. Brandy L. Rose, 38 of Gillespie, was arrested for driving on suspended driver’s license.

The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association announces that it will be awarding over $58,000 in college scholarships throughout the State of Illinois to students wishing to pursue higher education during the 2026-2027 academic year.
The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books, and fees only. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning, full-time. Online learning is also acceptable.
Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl will be awarding one scholarship in the amount of $500.
There will be no restriction on any applicant by reason of race, age, creed, color, sex, or national origin. The only limitations are applicants must be a permanent Illinois resident and students must be enrolled as a full-time student during the 2026-2027 school year, excluding summer session.
Applications are available at the sheriff’s office located at 215 South East Street, Carlinville or on the ISA website. Students must complete the application, answer the essay question, and return all documentation to the sheriff’s office by March 13.

An officer initiated a traffic stop at Pine Street and Montgomery Street. Asa M. Proctor, 47 of Gillespie, was arrested for driving while license was revoked and was issued a citation for operating an uninsured vehicle.

Macoupin County State’s Attorney Jordan Garrison announced on Friday that Patrick Greer of Mt. Olive was sentenced to 13 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for methamphetamine delivery and burglary. Greer had been held in the Macoupin County Jail since February 2025 when he was initially charged with the burglary offense.
Greer was driving on Route 66 in Mt. Olive on March 14, 2024, when he was observed driving without a seat belt. Sgt. Roger Diveley from the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office was called for assistance and his K9 partner Mac indicated on the vehicle. A search found approximately 30 grams of methamphetamine, 4 grams of cocaine, and 11 grams of fentanyl. The investigation was passed onto Insp. Matt Marburger of the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department who was able to determine Greer had brought the drugs into Macoupin County to deliver them.
In an unrelated matter, Det. Lt. Ryan Dixon investigated a burglary that occured at Hickory Grove Farms in Macoupin County. Surveillance video identified Greer as one of the suspects. During the investigation, Lt. Dixon and Insp. Marburger were able to obtain consent to search Greer’s vehicle where they located the stolen property.
“Dedicated law enforcement officers were able to work methodically to take another career criminal off the streets,” Garrison said. “Those who seek to sell drugs and profit on the addiction of others can expect to see the same fate. I would like to thank the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Office and the South Central Illinois Drug Task Force for their work in this matter, particularly Detective Lt. Ryan Dixon, Sgt. Matt Marburger, Sgt. Roger Diveley, and Deputy Jake Zimmer for their stellar work in this matter.”
