The Gillespie Miners baseball team clobbers Greenfield/Northwestern in a 15 to 0 win on Wednesday, April 17.
Tristen Wargo earned the win on the mound for the Miners. Wargo gave up no runs on four hits over two innings of work, collecting one strikeout. We saw Luke Shuckenbrock in a brief relief performance, striking out two batters, and giving up no hits and no runs. B. Roberts collected the loss for Greenfield/Northwestern.
The Miners sealed the game in the first inning of play with 14 runs put on the board. Tristen Wargo was dynamic in the leadoff spot going 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs, 3 runs scored, and drawing a walk. Shuckenbrock kept the top of the lineup hot, going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Wargo and Shuckenbrock each had a triple in the game.
Carson Hailstone provided a pop in the bottom of the line, going 2 for 2 at the plate, driving in 2 runs, and plating one. Jesse Berry, Bryce Buhs, Jack Kaylor, and Owen Schweppe each had a hit on the night. Buhs, Berry, and Colin Griffith each collected a stolen base against the Greenfield/Northwestern defense.
The Miners faced off against North Mac Panthers on Friday, April 19, collecting a 7 to 1 win on the season.
Wargo was a powerhouse on the mound, putting in six innings of working, giving up three hits, no runs, and pocketing 11 strikeouts. Quinn Morrow took the loss for North Mac. Morrow gave up six runs on three hits.
Gillespie only mustered up four hits in their win. Bryce Hohnsbehn, Berry, and Buhs each went 1 for 2 on the evening with a collective 4 runs crossing the plate. Carson Hailstone went 1 for 2 at the plate with 2 RBIs. Wargo, Kaylor, and Jaydon Baker had an RBI in the victory.
Buhs and Berry stole two bases in the game. Hohnsbehn and Hailstone had a stolen base each.
The Miners will face off against Pana on Friday, April 26.
