PHOTOS: Middle school honors banquet
Gillespie Middle School recognized 35 of the school’s eighth grade students last night during the annual Honor’s Banquet. Students are required to maintain honor roll status for 11 consecutive quarters to be honored at the banquet.

Nineteen young girls are vying for the title of 2018 Little Miss Macoupin County Fair. The pageant will take place on Wednesday June 27 at 7 p.m.

Meet this year’s candidates vying for the title of 2018 Miss Black Diamond Days and 2018 Junior Miss Black Diamond Days. The pageant will take place on Friday, June 1 in the Ben-Gil Elementary School gymnasium starting at 6 p.m. and crowning this year’s royalty will be 2017 royalty Maya Marcacci and Chloe Hedrick. Advance tickets are available at United Community Bank, Dee-Dee’s Designs, Accents, or from any contestant.

Over 120 students at Gillespie High School enjoyed great weather Saturday evening as they walked into this year’s prom, themed “Black and White Ball”. Walk-ins took place from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. immediately followed by coronation where Chase Odell-Mueller and Mackenzie Kasarda were named 2018 King and Queen.
Prom endured until 11 p.m. and then post prom was available to the students.
