The Gillespie Miners fall to Rochester on Saturday, April 13, with a final score of 16 to 3.
Jack Kaylor took the loss on the mound for the Miners, giving up seven runs on four hits with no strikeouts and walking four. Plessa earned the win for Rochester, giving up three hits and two runs in four innings of work.
Luke Shuckenbrock went 1 for 3 in the game with 1 hit and 1 run scored. Owen Schweppe put a 1 in the hit column, scoring one run in Gillespie’s efforts. Tristen Wargo, Bryce Buhs, and Brody Shaw collected a hit. Buhs, Schuckenbrock, Schweppe, and Wargo all doubled in the game.
The Miners suffered another loss on Saturday, falling to Routt Catholic 3–13. Daniel Wolber took the loss on the mound for Gillespie. Wolber put in two innings of work, giving up six runs on four hits and sitting down two batters with a strikeout. Brock Runyon picked up the win for Routt Catholic.
The bats refused to come alive for the Miners. They could only muster up four hits against Routt Cathoic’s pitching staff. Wargo put in work in the leadoff spot, going 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and drawing one walk. Jesse Berry and Colin Griffith each collected one hit throughout the game.
The Gillespie Miners faced Southwestern on Tuesday, April 16, falling just short in a 4–5 loss.
Buhs was on the mound for the Miners and collected the loss. Buhs put in six innings of work, surrendering five runs on five hits, striking out seven, and issuing four walks. Buhs threw a total of 68 strikes on the night. Marcus Payne earned the win for Southwestern. Payne gave up four runs on eight hits and sat down six Miners with the strikeout.
Wargo went 2 for 4 in the leadoff spot. Jack Kaylor led the Miners offensively, going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Bryce Hohnsbehn, Buhs, Griffith, and Berry collected a hit on the night. Berry homered to left field in the top of the sixth.
The Miners will step on the field against Greenfield/Northwestern on Wednesday, April 17.
