Two people in critical condition after accident in Montgomery County
Two people are in critical condition after an early morning accident on Wednesday, August 17 on Illinois Route 16 in Montgomery County near 22nd Avenue.
Sergeant Derrick Taylor of Illinois State Police District 18 said Max Heintz, 20 of Witt, was traveling westbound on Route 16 when he crossed over the center line around 5:55 a.m. and struck Janece Neunaber, 61 of Mattoon, head on.
Route 16 was closed in both directions for approximately five hours while the drivers were extricated from their vehicles and the on-scene investigation was completed. Both drivers were the sole occupants of the vehicle and both were taken to St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
The Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating and charges against Heintz are pending.
