LAWSUITS
Lynn Bruemmer has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against James and Lucinda Jason, Wilsonville, seeking $2,500 in alleged back rent, late fees and a security deposit, along with possession of residential premises located in the 200 block of Rice Street in Wilsonville.
Donald Burcham, Carlinville, has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Constance Burcham, Carlinville, seeking possession of residential premises located in the 300 block of Loomis Lane, Carlinville.
Dane Carlson has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Joe and Loni McLain, Gillespie, seeking possession of residential premises located in the 100 block of Henry Street in Gillespie, along with $155 in court costs and filing fees.
Nicole Sandage and Thomas Crowe, Chatham, are suing Robert M. and Resa M. Earley, Girard, seeking to recover $10,000 in earnest money they allegedly paid the Earleys as part of a real estate deal gone sour. The three-count suit accuses the defendants of promissory estoppel, intentional misrepresentation and unjust enrichment. According to the suit, the parties began negotiations in February for the plaintiffs to buy from the Earleys a piece of commercial real estate located at 32097 Illinois Route 4 in Girard. On March 7, Robert Earley allegedly delivered a letter to the plaintiffs calling for them to sign a letter of intent and tender $2,000 in non-refundable earnest money pending completion of a contract with an anticipated closing set for May 2. The plaintiffs rejected the proposal, after which Earley allegedly delivered a second letter on March 19 in which the “non-refundable” language had been deleted, the suit claims. The plaintiffs signed and returned the second letter, and subsequently remitted two payments in the amounts of $2,000 and $8,000, according to the suit. The plaintiff allege the Earleys sent them a proposed contract for deed in April, and the plaintiffs asked for revisions to the contract before finalizing the deal. The Earleys either declined to make the revisions or did not respond to the request, according to the suit. On May 9, the plaintiffs sent a letter demanding the return of the $10,000, citing the defendants alleged failure to provide an acceptable contract for the purchase of the property. The Earleys responded through their attorney on June 3, claiming the money was not refundable and threatening to sue the plaintiffs to force them to perform terms of the contract. According to the suit, the plaintiffs claim they never intended the letter of intent to constitute a fully negotiated contract to purchase the property, and never signed a contract to purchase the property. In addition, they allege the Earleys removed the “non-refundable” language from the second letter of intent and that they are owed the money because of the parties’ inability to agree upon a purchase contract. The suit seeks restoration of the earnest money, along with a judgment for court costs and attorney fees associated with the suit.

BenGil Staff
The Macoupin County Clerk, Recorder, and Elections Office will temporarily relocate across the street to the Macoupin County Voting Center, located at 227 E. First South in Carlinville, beginning Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
The move is necessary to accommodate HVAC system renovations in the Macoupin County Courthouse. The temporary relocation is expected to last until mid-January 2026.
During this time, all regular services — including vital records, recordings, elections, and general clerk functions — will continue to be available at the Voting Center. Office hours and contact information will remain the same.
However, due to limited space during the renovation, public searching and certain in-person services may be restricted. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the many online services offered through the Clerk’s website, including:
- Searching and ordering vital records
- Accessing property and land records
- Viewing election information and forms
- Checking registration and voter status
“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we make these necessary improvements to the Courthouse,” said Macoupin County Clerk Pete Duncan. “Our goal is to continue serving the public efficiently and safely, whether in person or online.”
Residents can visit www.macoupincountyclerk.com, call 217-854-3214, text 217-439-4499, or email elections@macoupincountyil.gov or recorder@macoupincountyil.gov for updates, online resources, and additional information.
