
The 48 top boys’ and girls’ basketball seniors from South Central Illinois will be playing in the 12th Annual Carlinville Rotary Club All-Star Basketball Classic to be held Sunday, March 23 at Carlinville High School.
A total of 20 high schools will be represented in the event that includes 24 girls and 24 boys. Four Gillespie girls will be making the trip to Carlinville and will be wearing a West jersey; those girls are seniors Tyler Ross, Kayli Morris, Molly Gray, and Ellen Gray. Gillespie girls’ coach Kevin Gray will be coaching the West team for the second consecutive year.
Other players on the girls’ West squad are Bailey Schmidt and Ashley Starr of Carlinville; Anna Whitaker of Roxana; Liz Krummelbein, Shannon Stumpf and Emily Doersam of Bunker Hill; Randi Hopkins of Southwestern; and Brittney Williams of Waverly-Franklin-New Berlin. Kevin Gray of Gillespie will coach the West All-Stars.
Players on the girls’ East team are Kennah White, Katie Deluka and Gretchen Hobbie of Hillsboro; Baylee McLaughlin and Taylor Jenkins of Auburn; Devyn Gaskin and Angelique McClain of Nokomis; Maria Reinhard, Kassidy Alderman and Sheena Gatson of Greenville; Breanna Schoonover of Pana; and Hannah McEnery of Staunton. Greenville’s Paul Thies will coach the East All-Stars.
Each game will be played in four 10-minute quarters. The Country Financial 3-Point Shootout for the girls will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the girls’ All-Star game at 4:30 p.m.
The Country Financial 3-Point Shootout for the boys will be held between games, starting at 6:15 p.m., with the boys’ All-Star game to follow at 6:45 p.m. The Cubby Hole Slam Dunk contest will be held at halftime of the boys’ game.
At halftime of each game, the Carlinville Rotary Club will present the “Coach of the Year” awards. An MVP award will also be given following each game. All proceeds from the day’s events will go to the Carlinville Rotary Club to help with community projects throughout the year.
Admission to the Mid-Illinois All-Star Basketball Classic is $5 with children 10 and under admitted free. In addition, those attending the All-Star games will have the opportunity to register to win an iPad Air courtesy of Country Financial.
The Carlinville Rotary Club will provide concessions with pizza by slice, popcorn, and candy along with Gatorade, soda and bottled water.
