Benld resident to turn 104 on April 14
Benld’s Lucille Turgiliatto was born on April 14, 1918, to Joe and Anna (Scipanko) Turigliatto and will soon celebrate her 104th birthday.
After her high school graduation, she attended the University Of Illinois and graduated from there in 1940. Her brothers Charles served as a SeaBee and Thomas served in the Air Core. She served two years with the Women’s Army Auxiliary Core.
After her military service, she returned to work at the U of I to work in the Alumni Office and retired from there as an associate editor.
Lucille continues to live in the home her parents built and enjoys good health.

Kimberly Miller and Christopher Makler of Sawyerville announce the birth of their daughter, Samantha Ruby Makler, who was born on Thursday, February 16, at 6:47 p.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.
She weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce, and measured 21 inches long.
Maternal grandparents are Kenny Miller and Jennifer Miller of Sawyerville. Paternal grandparents are Rory Makler and Patricia Makler of Staunton. Maternal great-grandparents are Michael Showalter and Nancy Showalter of Gillespie.

Pastor Ray Ditch, a 50-year resident of Gillespie, is turning 90 years old on July 13 this year.
In December of 1965, Ray and his wife Pat and their family moved to Gillespie from the St. Louis area to become the pastor of the First Baptist Church. He retired as senior pastor there in 2005 and served an additional 10 years as Pastor Emeritus.
He has lived with his daughter and son-in-law since the fall of 2015.
The family is asking for his local friends and acquaintances to contact him any time from now until the end of the year and just brighten his day or let him brighten their day.

He is still active, mostly attending church and taking fishing trips. He enjoys gardening and crossword puzzles to keep his mind sharp.
