Concrete work being done by Dan Dobrinich will be complete by the end of this week. We are still taking bids on the carpentry for the project. All bids will be submitted by October plans are to get the gazebo completed this year. We also have an outstanding LANDSCAPE plan done by La Bella Fiori, and that will be a ‘long term’ project. We are modeling our efforts after Duda Park in Staunton and it took them approximately seven years to get where they are today.
Cost estimates are as follows: The concrete work is about $5,000, and the initial bid (from R & P Lumber in Staunton) for building materials was $2,500. Contractors haven’t been contacted yet so we aren’t sure on the construction cost. Beginning spring of 2010 the landscaping project will be started and kept in the working stage as we continue to raise money donations for for landscaping until completed (long-term goal). We’ve already received a number of donations and this is a great way to honor and memoralize loved ones. As the park area grows a kisok is planned that will list all of the donations and memorials made.

People should look at the Gazebo Landscape Park in Benld as a wonderful destination to walk, ride, push a baby stroller thru or jog to; a great place to enjoy the outdoors with friends and family. We hope to use this park for ‘events’ in town as well as various eduational pursuits. Sue Campbell, CEO, Community Memorial Hospital and Macoupin County Deptment of Public Health hope to utilize this space for various motivational and health-related programs. The Benld Library may use the park in the summer for reading programs. Duda Park is used for graduation pictures, wedding pictures and family get-togethers, so we are hopeful that this park will be used by everyone for everything.
