COMMITTEE TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARINGS ACROSS THE COUNTY
Public Input Sought on County Board Redistricting

Macoupin County – Though not required to do so by Illinois state law, the Macoupin County Board has chosen to involve interested members of the public in the process of drawing new County Board boundaries. The Board’s Executive Committee has scheduled three hearings over the next four weeks throughout the county to explain the process of drawing a new county board map and to allow the general public an open forum for providing suggestions.
“Even though we as a Board aren’t required to do so by law, there is no reason to not involve members of the public in this process,” said Andy Manar, County Board Chairman. “Our preference is to conduct business in a completely open environment.”
State law directs County Boards the to draw district boundaries every ten years following the release of census data from the United States Census Bureau. Districts should be as equal as possible in population. Because of changes in population within Macoupin County, it is likely some county board district boundaries will change.
“The Board has scheduled hearings in Staunton, Palmyra, and Carlinville in order to provide the public with several different opportunities to attend,” said Manar. “The Committee plans to listen to all comments from members of the public on redistricting and the recently passed referendum that advised reducing the size of the Board.”
