The following report has not been confirmed by the Benld police department.
On Monday, March 14, there was a break-in at a residence in Benld. The burglary occured around noon while the family was out at lunch. Apparently, they had entered the home by kicking in the back door.
A few months ago a team of thieves was burglarizing houses in Macoupin, Montgomery, Christian and Sangamon County. In the middle of the day they would knock on the door – if no one would answer they would try the doors and if they found one left unlocked they would help themselves to the items inside. If the homeowner answered the door they would tell the homeowner they were lost or looking for someone. This may or not be related to the recent burglary.
The homeowners wanted residents of Gillespie and Benld to be aware of it, and keep their eyes and ears open.
And THIS is why we need to revive the Neighborhood Watch program!! When we met monthly, we shared this kind of info. It is a program that needs to return. Thanks, Bengil Post for the article. You’ve earned your stripes!.
