The Community Unit School District 7 Board of Education will meet in special session at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, in the Administrative Office Annex on West Elm Street, Gillespie, for the purpose of certifying election results, seating the new Board of Education and reorganization.
The current board will convene at 6 p.m. to canvass and certify results of the April 5 election. The old board will then adjourn and board members who were elected on April 5 will be sworn in by Superintendent Paul Skeans. Those taking the oath will be incumbents Dave Griffel, Jenni Alepra, and Mark Hayes, all of whom were reelected, and newcomers Weye Schmidt and high school senior Peyton Bernot.
Skeans will preside over the meeting until a new president is elected and seated. Current president Lloyd “Rusty” Bilbruck did not seek reelection to the board.
As the new president is elected, board members will elect a vice president and secretary. The new board also will establish regular meeting dates. The board currently meets regularly on the fourth Monday of each month. Board members also are expected to reappoint Kathy McDaniel as recording secretary and Rory C. Makler of First National Bank of Benld as treasurer. The board also is likely to again approve First National Bank of Benld as the depository for district funds.
The newly elected president may choose to appoint committees, or he or she may defer committee appointments until the next regular meeting of the board. A representative to the South Macoupin County Special Education Cooperative Board also is expected to be appointed.
The entire meeting is expected to last about 30 minutes.
