David Thomas Bangert, 83, of Carlinville, passed away on April 26, 2024, in Carlinville. David was born in Carlinville, on December 15, 1940, to James Fred and Evan Ann (Evans) Bangert.
He went to high school at Carlinville High School and graduated in 1958. He worked as a mechanic in several neighboring towns throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and just growing anything, sitting on the porch, and fixing anything he could get his hands on with great determination.
He also had a deep sense of responsibility to his neighborhood. He was always ready to help a friend or neighbor. Whether it was mowing a yard, fixing a car, yard cleanup, snow removal, or any job where he could use his Kabota, which gave him great pleasure. He enjoyed car and tractor shows, and anything about building or fixing motors. He was especially happy to have any of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit.
David is survived by his longtime companion of 30+ years, Alice Bown, his brother, Daniel (Sue) Bangert of Shipman, one daughter, Kathy (Kevin) Kalb of Salem, IN, and five step-sons; Dale (Amy) Ball of Hettick, Brad Ball of Glen Rock, Wyoming, Russ Ball of Carlinville, Bill (Mary) Bown of Havelock, NC, Kenny Bown of Carlinville, and two step-daughters; Kelly (John) Clark of Palmyra, Mary (Matt) Ray, and fourteen grandkids and eight great-grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Richard, and sister-in-law, Patty Bangert.
