Death of Jennie H. Hillerstrom

Jennie H. Hillerstrom, 88, of Gillespie, IL died Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 9:35 pm at Heritage Health of Gillespie, IL. Jennie was born on May 31, 1924 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Charles Hamberger and the late Amber (D’Ivernois) Hamberger. She married the late George Hillerstrom.

She was a retired accountant from retail and wholesale stores.

Jennie leaves behind her daughter, Jean (Russell) Rakey of Gillespie, IL, grandchildren: Nikol Leitschuh, Amy Sloan, step grandchildren: Ronald Rakey, Eric Rakey, Laura Benton, and 11 great grandchildren.

Remains were cremated. No public services are scheduled.

Kravanya Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary of Gaylon D. McAllister

Gaylon D. McAllister, 58 of Eagarville, passed away on November 7, 2024, at his home surrounded by devoted family, special friends, and amateur radio operators worldwide.  

Better known as N9VFP, Gaylon had a lifetime membership to X9MCE Macoupin Co. Amateur Radio Club and the OMiss IA Side Band Society, YL System, Volunteer for Weather Service Station St. Louis, MO, Severe Storm Spotter, awarded ARRL’s Worked All States (50) & (20) 2-way contact mixed, and DX Century Club (10 relay).  

He was emergency communications coordinator for Staunton Community Hospital. This year he achieved Amateur Extra Class.  

Gaylon leaves behind his wife, Louise McAllister; children, Christina, Scott, and Nichole; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and special forever “frequency friends.” This is N9VFP…Seventy Threes…Monitoring.  

No public services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Gillespie Benld Area Ambulance Service, 208 Charles St., Gillespie, IL 62033. Kravanya Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary of Christopher James McGee

Christopher James McGee, 15, of Litchfield, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in Wood River.  He was born on April 15, 2009, a son of Jeffrey Daniel (J.D.) McGee and Savannah Jean Stewart.

Christopher was a sophomore at Litchfield High School where he played trumpet in the LHS band, jazz and marching band, ran cross country and track, as well as being a member of the trap shooting team where he went to State and qualified for the Nationals. Christopher had a special bond with his teammates and coaches.

Over the years, he was involved in many extra-curricular activities including scholastic bowl, student council, and the virtuous life club. Christopher enjoyed walking and listening to music, playing with his siblings, hanging out with his friends, fishing and being outdoors.

Christopher thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his grandparents. He spent time outdoors at his Grandma Teresa’s property, and gardening with his Grandpa Jim. Christopher had attended Zion Lutheran School where he participated in track and handbells. Christopher was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield where he made his confirmation.

Christopher is survived by his father, J.D. McGee of Wood River; his mother, Savannah (Mat) Boston of Litchfield; his brother, Luca Boston of Litchfield; his sisters, Aubrie Boston and Evelyn Boston of Litchfield; paternal grandparents, Teresa (John) Depper and Jeff McGee, all of Wood River; paternal great-grandparents, Mickey McGee of Fosterburg and Martha Warren of Wood River; maternal grandparents, Sheri (Greg) Nantkes of Navarre, FL; maternal great-grandparents, Pat (Sharon) Maxin of Navarre, FL; step grandparents, Jim and Peggy Boston of Mt. Olive; aunts and uncles, Ashley & Bryan Drake, Kim Warren, Tim Warren, and Kyle Nantkes of Key West, FL; and step uncle and aunt, Paul & Carla Boston of California, and Catie & Todd Taylor of Springfield.

Christopher was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James W. Stewart.

Funeral services for Christopher will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield on Saturday, November 16, 2024. Rev. Fred Kraemer, pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 15, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.

The family suggests memorials to Zion Lutheran School, Litchfield High School c/o Band Program, or Litchfield High School Sports Boosters. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary of Paula Kay Barnett

Paula Kay Barnett, 66 of Shipman, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO surrounded by her loved ones. Paula was born on March 11, 1958, in Carlinville, the daughter of V. Dale and Shirley Jo (Dwyer) Tieman.

Paula graduated from Carlinville High School with the class of 1976. After graduation, she worked full-time as an office receptionist for Dr. Villegas and Dr. Villesenor for nearly 40 years. In 2011, Paula went on to work at Carlinville Area Hospital as the receptionist in the Radiology Department. She retired from Carlinville Area Hospital in 2023. Paula was passionate about her role in providing the best care for all the patients and for the doctors she worked for.

In 1979, she met the love of her life, Danny Barnett. They wed on April 25, 1980, in Carlinville. Paula dedicated her life to being a loving and devoted wife and mother to their three children, Jason, Danley, and Justin, and Nana to their seven grandchildren. She was the foundation of our family, through and through. She was an excellent gift giver, always knew the right thing to say, and never missed a special date. Whether supporting her children on their career paths or through parenthood, she was our constant guidance and support.

Paula was passionate about gardening and surrounded her house with the most beautiful flower gardens. When she wasn’t gardening, she was spending time traveling with her friends. However, it was spending time with her devoted husband, their grandchildren and their dog, Lilly, that brought her the most joy in life. Her life’s work and legacy was taking care of people, which she did in every aspect of her life and what she will be remembered for the most.

Paula is survived by her husband, Danny Barnett of Shipman; mother, Shirley Jo Tieman of Carlinville; son, Jason (Amy) Barnett of Mt. Juliet, TN; daughter, Danley (Rodney) Killam of Carlinville; son, Justin (Chandley) Barnett of Carlinville; grandchildren, Julia, Addison, Alyson, Blake and Brooks Barnett, Garrett and Emmalyn Killam; one great-grandson; brother, Richard (Peggy) Tieman of Carlinville; brother, Joseph (Marti) Tieman of Sarasota, FL; sister, Sandra (Rocco) Cania of Carlinville; sister, Jill (Mark Weyen) Schwab of Carlinville; sister, Monica (Dave) Reiher of Carlinville; sister, Stacey (Quinn) Steiner of Carlinville; brother, Martin (Dana) Tieman of Plainview; brother, Barry Tieman of St. Charles, MO; brother, Brian (Mendi) Tieman of Gulf Breeze, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Paula was preceded in death by her father, V. Dale Tieman; sister, Wendy Lorraine Tieman; father-in-law, Harold Barnett; mother-in-law, Patricia Barnett; and brother-in-laws, Mike Schwab and Larry Barnett.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Ss Mary and Joseph Catholic Church, Carlinville. Burial will follow in St. Dennis Cemetery, Shipman.

Memorials may be made to Shipman Firefighter Association. Davis-Anderson Funeral Homes, Carlinville is in charge of arrangements.
