Luther Dean Barnes, 92 of Bunker Hill, died at his residence on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 7:32 pm. He was born on October 13, 1930, in Marion, IL to Luther N. Barnes and Lois Radcliffe Barnes. He married Carolyn E. Dennison Barnes.
He was a sheet metal worker for Local 268 and pastor of Southern Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the US Army after having served during Korea. Luther enjoyed bowling, golfing and was a pool player.
He is survived by his spouse, Carolyn Barnes of Bunker Hill; children, Luther Barnes of Springfield, John Barnes of Marion, Mike Staples of Springfield, Donna (Danny) VonLanken of Byron, GA, Steven Barnes of Marion, and Christopher (Bev) Barnes of Bunker Hill; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and siblings, Larry Barnes, Lonnie Barnes, Pauline Barrett, and Jeanette Gray.
Luther was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynthia Thornton; and siblings, Lyndall Barnes, Lowell Barnes, and Lovina James.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Kravanya Funeral Home, Bunker Hill from 9:30 am to 11:00 am. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Kravanya Funeral Home, Bunker Hill at 11:00 am.
