Death of Mark Elmo Parish

Mark Elmo Parish, 66 of Litchfield, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Highland. He was born on January 28, 1957, in St. Louis, MO, a son of James Junior and Hazel Harrison Parrish.

Mark graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1975. Throughout his life, he was employed as a general laborer by several different companies. Mark attended First Apostolic Church in Greenville, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed watching wrestling.

Mark is survived by two brothers, Wesley (Brigitte) Parrish of Germany and Bobby (Corinna) Parrish of Litchfield; two sisters, Peggy (Danny) Weinberg of Kilgore, TX and Fanny (Jon) Chasteen of Pocahontas, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by two brothers, Jesse Parish and Daniel Parrish, and a sister, Rose Werner.

Funeral services for Mark will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Plummer Funeral Home. Rev. George Bankston will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday, September 10 from 3 until 5 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home. Plummer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary of Anna Jean Foster

Anna Jean Foster, 90 of Springfield, formerly of Litchfield, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born on July 28, 1934, in Sheridan, Kentucky, a daughter of James Henry and Ruth Elizabeth (Walker) Gilland.

She attended high school in Tolu, Kentucky. She married Glen David Crocks and they later divorced. She later married Gerald William Foster and he survives. Mrs. Foster was a familiar face at The Gardens restaurant in Litchfield where she waitressed for many years. She was also employed by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. for 30 years in Springfield, Illinois, where she was a department manager and retired in 2013.

Mrs. Foster enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening. She particularly loved to bake birthday cakes for her family and found joy in hosting  Christmas dinner for her family each year.

Mrs. Foster is survived by her husband, Gerald W. Foster of Litchfield; son, David (Vicky) Crocks of Litchfield; daughter, Brenda Stamer of Chatham; brother, Bobby Don (Mary) Gilland of Marion, KY; three grandchildren, Jeremy Stamer, Travis (Lauren) Crocks, and Sara (Zach) Rodeffer; and five great-grandchildren, Amelia, Hannah and Cameron Rodeffer, Hayden and Mason Crocks.

Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Helen Corn, Laverne Croft and Virginia Corn.

Graveside services for Mrs. Foster will be held at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield. Family and friends may gather at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024. Lynne Taylor of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church will officiate. The family suggests memorials to Coats for Kids in Litchfield.

Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is assisting the family.

Obituary of Mary Judith “Judy” Woolsey

Mary Judith “Judy” Woolsey of rural Carlinville died on Monday, November 4, 2024, at ­­­­3:15 a.m. in Carlinville.

Judy was born in Granite City on January 31, 1940, the eldest child of Darwin and Zelda (Hicks) Richard. A 1958 graduate of Alton High School, she was employed by Rawlings Athletic Equipment Manufacturing Co. in St. Louis until her marriage to Paul W. Woolsey on September 21, 1959, in Medora.

Judy was a stay-at-home mom of the couple’s five children. She was also a member of the Macoupin County Homemaker’s Extension Association, a sales representative for Home Interiors & Gifts in the ‘70’s, and an Avon representative for over thirty years. Additionally, she and her husband were active members of the Hoedowners Square Dance Club in Wood River.

Judy is survived by her husband, Paul W. Woolsey of Carlinville; children, Valerie (Jerry) Smith of Bunker Hill, Melissa (Tony) Kobiella of Elk Grove Village, Michelle (Jeff) Copas of Liberty Township, OH, Paul R. (Angie) Woolsey of Hettick, and Amy Woolsey of Carlinville; grandchildren, Kristina (Brad) Davenport, Geoff (Rachael Henkhaus) Smith, Danielle (Jacob) Redman, Jacob (Justuce Albertson) Smith, Chris (Bailey) Woolsey, Stephanie Woolsey, Patrick Woolsey, and Morgan Copas; 16 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Lance (Ellen) Richard of Edwardsville, and sister Jacquie Richard-Wahle (Larry Wahle) of Alton. 

Judy was preceded in death by her parents.

Friends may call on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Funeral services are on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Anderson Family Funeral Home in Brighton at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be at Brighton City Cemetery, Brighton.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.

Death of Phyllis Jean Ridenhower

Phyllis Jean Ridenhower, 75, of Sorento, formerly of Litchfield, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2024. She was born on February 12, 1949, in Litchfield a daughter of Paul James and Frances LaVonne (Hurst) Stewart Sr. 

She was a graduate of Litchfield Community High School, class of 1967. Her first marriage was to Gary Frank Sr. Together they had four children and that later ended in divorce. She then married John “J.R.” M. Ridenhower on May 12, 1981, in Litchfield. J.R. passed away January 1, 2010.

She loved music and dancing and traveled with J.R. in the various bands that he played in and became a sound and light board operator. She held a Commercial Drivers License for several years and drove over the road for many of those years. She was a great cook and made the best lasagna and baked spaghetti. She loved to read and writing and wrote three books, but they weren’t published.  She loved having a good ole time and being with her family was important to her. 

Phyllis is survived by two sons, Gary (fiancé Tanya Roberts) Frank of Maryville and Jimmy Frank of Litchfield; two daughters, Angela (fiancé Jim Roberson) Frank of New Douglas and Sherry Willette of Sorento; two brothers, Paul (Lori) Stewart Jr., of Hillsboro and George Stewart of Litchfield; sister, Pauline (Bill) Webb of Moberly, MO; and several grand and great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, J.R., Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents. 

A service of remembrance and celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 12:00 Noon at the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Interment will be in the Crabtree Cemetery.  The family will receive family and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

Memorials are asked to be given to assist with expenses, C/O Angela Frank. Plummer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
