Death of William C. Stewart

Stewart, WilliamWilliam C. Stewart, 78, of Houston, Texas (formerly of Litchfield) passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 4:15 p.m. at North Cypress Medical Center in Cypress, Texas. Mr. Stewart was born on August 29, 1934 in Gillespie, the son of Mary Reid Stewart and Samuel Stewart.

He married Charlotte Tilley on July 1, 1965 in Colorado Springs, Colorado and she survives. He was an avid bowler and manager and co-owner of Litchfield Bowl for over 30 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Janie Brogan (Millard) and Lynn Stewart of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Rodney Stewart (Andrea), Evan Sikorski (Ashley), Daniel Baugh (Ashley), all residing in Houston and Kelley Brogan who resides in Broomfield, Colorado; great-grandchildren Damon and Conner Stewart and Darcy Baugh (pending arrival in April) all of Houston; sister-in-law Mildred Stewart of Gillespie and brother-in-law Edward Alpi of Mt. Clare; nephews Donald Stewart (Charlene) of Gillespie, Samuel Stewart, Jr. (Suzanne) of Litchfield, Jim Alpi (Sharon) of Decatur, niece Marianne Grady (Jeff) of Chicago, as well as several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Mildred Desmond, Gloria Bocchiardi, Isabel (Izzy) Stewart, Mary Kathyleen (Katie) Alpi and brother Samuel J. Stewart, Sr.

Visitation and funeral will be held at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie. Visitation will be Sunday evening, March 10th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with funeral services on Monday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Steve Friese officiating. Burial will be in Gillespie Cemetery. A reception will be held immediately following the funeral service at the Gillespie Civic Center.

The family asks that memorials be made to Benld Adopt-A-Pet.

Death of Michael Joe Stewart

Michael Joe Stewart, 69 of Benld, passed away at his residence in Benld on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 5:30 a.m. He was born on February 22, 1955, in Staunton to Jack Stewart and Pauline (Montgomery) Stewart.

He married Terri Tomso on November 12, 2000, in Gatlinburg, TN. He worked for the railway. He was a lover of his family and friends, his music, cooking, and was a man of faith. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles’ and Cardinals’ fan.

He is survived by his wife, Terri Stewart of Benld; daughter, Jennifer Jo Stewart of Gillespie; grandson, Nicholas Joseph Willis of Repentigny, Quebec, Canada; bbrother, Jim Stewart Livingston; two sisters, Patti Hicken of Mt. Olive and Bonnie Stewart of Gillespie; mother-in-law, Norma Tomso of Mt. Olive; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dale Stewart and Wayne Stewart; step mom, Lois Stewart; father-in-law, Ted Tomso; and niece, Layla Stewart.

Friends may call on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie from 4:00 pm until the time of service. Memorial services are on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 6:30 PM at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie with Derrick Taylor officiating.

Memorials are suggested to Gillespie Caring Center and Benld Adopt-A-Pet. Kravanya Funeral Home, Gillespie is in charge of the arrangements.

Death of Betty Jean Craddick

Betty Jean Craddick, 88, of Benld, died at her residence on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 9:10 am. She was born June 7, 1936, in Gillespie, to Jeanie Steed. She married Harry Craddick on September 25, 1954, at the Gillespie Methodist Church.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed anything involving her family, especially doting on her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Harry Craddick, her two sons, David (Betty Lynn) Craddick of Litchfield, and Robert (Anna) Craddick of O’Fallon, grandchildren, Jennifer Spitznagel of Litchfield, Michael (Tanya) Craddick of Glen Carbon, Bradley (Rachael) Craddick of Edwardsville, Timothy Craddick of O’Fallon, Michelle (Derek) Petrich of O’Fallon, Lindsay Craddick of O’Fallon, and Jennifer (Alex) Scherschel of Richmond, VA, great-grandchildren, Tanner (Samantha) Roeske of Litchfield, Casey Roeske of Litchfield, Hailey Robbins of Litchfield, Christina Craddick of Glen Carbon, Nora Craddick of Edwardsville, and Graham Petrich of O’Fallon, great-great-grandchildren, Cruze and Jami Roeske of Litchfield, and other extended family.

Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanie Steed; her brother, Jim Steed, sister, Gladys O’Connell; and great-grandchild Angelina Craddick.

Death of Kenneth M. Beerup

Kenneth M. Beerup, 73, of Bunker Hill, died at his residence on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. He was born on July 29, 1950, in Jacksonville, to Audie Beerup and Imogene Pitchford Beerup. He married Gala Danette Kruemmelbein Beerup on January 14, 1969, in Carlinville. She preceded him in death on December 26, 2016.

He was a retired CPA. He was a veteran of the US Air Force after having served during Vietnam. Keith enjoyed traveling, reading, hunting, and spending time with friends.

He is survived by his son, Kenneth “Marty” (Patricia) Beerup of Seminole, FL, grandchild, Bryce Ray of Seminole, FL; brother, Audie “Butch” (Karen) Beerup of Paragould, AR; and sister, Susan (Jack) Hurst of Bunker Hill. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, spouse, and daughter, Joey Kenna.
