A Mason City man driving under the influence causes a five-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 last Friday, March 28 leading to five people being transported to the hospital.
Robert Arnold, 48 of Mason City, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving with a revoked license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to wear a seatbelt and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
Police said Arnold was driving south on I-55 when traffic was slowed or stopped due to construction and he failed to slow down and crashed into four vehicles closing the interstate for approximately four hours.
Three people from the five involved vehicles were transported to the hospital with minor injuries including Arnold and a second passenger and an additional two people were transported to the hospital with serious injuries including Arnold’s third passenger.
Five other people involved were uninjured.
