Area children are invited to a special story time and sing-along with the Ice Princess at the Carlinville Public Library on Saturday, Feb. 29. It’s just one of many activities for youngsters at the library in the coming weeks.
The Carlinville Public Library is planning activities for several upcoming early dismissal school days, as well as many other activities for youngsters.
The first event will be a special Game Day on Friday, Feb. 28 from 1-4 p.m. Guardians are invited to bring their children into the library to play board and card games. The children may also complete crossword puzzles and word searches.
“We invite the children and their families to enjoy the resources the library has to offer,” said Children’s Librarian Nadia Kahl, “and to help combat ‘cabin fever’ that kids start to feel during these winter months.”
The other two open houses are March 20 and April 10. The themes for those events will be determined at a later date.
On Saturday, Feb. 29 from 10-11 a.m., local children are invited to a special story time and sing-along with the Ice Princess from Brittain’s Princess Parties. The Ice Princess will share her past adventures, and lead attendees through some of her favorite songs.
Following the songs and stories, there will be an opportunity for the little ones to create a craft, and be photographed with the princess. Parents may reserve their space by calling the library at 854-3505 or by e-mail at mail@carlinvillelibrary.org.
Every Tuesday at 10 a.m., the library hosts Story Time, also known as LapSit, for children of birth age to five years old. Children and their caretakers can share stories, rhymes, songs, and crafts at LapSit.
Numerous studies have shown that it is beneficial for young ones to play and begin pre-reading activities.
