Eighteen members of the Gillespie High School class of 1960 held their “60th plus 2” year reunion at Lumpy’s Bar and Grill in Gillespie on July 16. The reunion originally planned for the spring of 2020 was delayed because of COVID concerns.
Class members traveled from as far as Florida and southern Missouri and joined local classmates to renew old friendships. Several class members did not attend because they had been recently exposed to COVID and were self-isolating. Other surviving class members could not attend because of other commitments. Nearly half of the class of 1960 is deceased.
A buffet luncheon was prepared and served by Lumpy’s for the class members and their guests. Joe Lucca prepared a booklet for each classmate which had photo memories, a tribute to deceased classmates, and contact information.
Linda (Warburton) Cone presented a white rose, the class flower, to each classmate in attendance. Kevin (Cavanaugh) Tucker took interested classmates on a tour of the Coal Museum. George Lacy presented a short video of pictures from past reunions which also had tributes to deceased classmates. The class enjoyed renewing old friendships and sharing memories from the past.
The reunion committee consisted of Gail (Klein) Allison, Linda (Warburton) Cone, Bob Fulton, George Lacy, Joe Lucca, and Kevin (Cavanaugh) Tucker.
