Gillespie Police Activity: September 1-8

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 2013

Officer was called to the 300 block of E Elm to take a report of harassment.  The male there called a father in another town about his daughter who was staying at his address.  The father started arguing with him and threatening him.  They were both advised not to have any further contact with each other.

Officer received a call that there was a group of boys shooting a BB gun in the 1200 block of A. Macoupin.  While on the phone with the complainant, 4 males got into a vehicle. They headed north on Macoupin. The officer stopped them on E. Maple off Macoupin.  Kevin P. Honaker, 20, Carlinville was charged with disorderly conduct.

Officer was called to the 500 block of W. Osie for a domestic.  When officer arrived, the male decided to leave the residence for the rest of the night.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2013

Officer was called to a business in the 300 block of N. Macoupin an employee was being harassed by a male and female customers.  The manager advised she did not want the subjects in the store while the clerk was working.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2013

Officer took a report from a female who reported that someone used her credit card and purchased several items from a store in Alton & Springfield.  This case is under investigation by those cities.

Richard A. Wiley, 23, Alton was cited for operating a vehicle with expired registration.

Officers were called to the 600 block of South Street where a female was upstairs and heard someone downstairs.  When officers checked, the found a screen had been removed from a window.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2013

Officer took a report from a female who reported that someone had taken her Kindle Fire from her residence.  This case is under investigation.

David C. Allen, 61, Litchfield, was cited for disobeying a traffic control device.

Officer took a report from a female who said a male who was harassing her by yelling obscenities and flipping her off. He was contacted and told if it continues, charges could be filed.

Officer took a report from a female who had bought some meat from two subjects working for a company out of Gillespie & Alton.  She paid cash and a check for the rest of the purchase.  She put a stop payment on the check after she found that she did not receive the type of meat that they had shown her. This case is under investigation.

Officer was called to the 500 block of E. Walnut to take a report from a mother who advised that a juvenile had been shining a red laser light into her residence.  The juvenile and his mother were contacted and the mother said he was with her at home.  The son was advised that if he did have a red laser that he needed to stop shining it in his neighbor’s windows.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2013

Ashleigh K. Bethel, 29, Gillespie was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver, unsafe equipment after being stopped when officers heard her dragging the back bumper on the pavement.  She was transported to Macoupin County jail.

Cynthia L. Price, 56, Gillespie was arrested on a warrant out of Alton P.D. She was transported to Bunker Hill and released to an Alton officer.

Officers were called to the 400 block of E. Elm for a domestic in progress where a female had hit the male’s boat with a hammer and threatened to slash his tires.  She was told to leave the residence for the rest of the night.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2013

Officer stopped a male subject riding a bike on S. Macoupin St., the 17 year old male was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Johnny B. Buffington, 63, Gillespie was arrested for pedestrian under the influence of alcohol. He posted bond and was released.

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2013

Trentin D. Morris, 22, Litchfield was arrested for illegal squealing/screeching of tires, driving under the influence of alcohol and illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver.  He posted bond and was released. His passenger, Austin M. Frerichs, 20, Litchfield was cited for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor.

Officer took a report from a male who stated that his ex-wife was refusing his visitation time with his children.  He was advised a report would be on file, he could pick up for his lawyer.

Football, parade, and GHS Athletic Hall of Fame induction highlight Gillespie homecoming

A football game pitting the Gillespie Miners against the Staunton Bulldogs, a parade and the second annual induction ceremony for newly named members of the Gillespie High School Athletic Hall of Fame will highlight Homecoming next month.

The theme of this year’s celebration is The Roaring Twenties.

The parade will kick off on South Macoupin Street at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25. The parade will march to the high school where a pep rally is scheduled for 7 p.m., followed by the coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen at 7:15 p.m. There will be a Powder Puff Game/Cheer Section competition at 7:30 p.m., also on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

There will be a meet and greet with newly named members of the Athletic Hall of Fame at 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27, followed by the Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. Hall of Fame  inductees include Mike Viano, Jack Genet, Dennis Best, Barbella Magus, Sam Stewart, William & Florence Schmidt and Family, and Deb Olson and the ’93, ’94 and ’95 GHS softball teams. New members will be inducted during a 2 p.m. reception on Sunday, Sept. 29, in the high school gym.

The annual Homecoming dance is set for 7-9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28 at the high school gym.

For GHS students, Homecoming activities will start well in advance of the Homecoming weekend festivities. Students from all four high school classes will work on building parade floats from 6-9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, Monday, Sept. 23, and Tuesday, Sept. 24. Students will decorate hallways for Homecoming from 3-5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, and 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Saturday, Sept 21.

Monday, Sept. 23 will kick off a week of “dress-up” days for students. For Monday, the theme is Boas and Bowties. Tuesday, Sept. 24 will feature Glitz and Glitter. Wednesday, Sept. 25 is Rhyme Without Reason Day, and Thursday, Sept. 26, will feature Gangsters vs. Flappers. The dress-up theme for Friday, Sept. 27 will be School Spirit.

In addition to Wednesday’s pep rally following the parade, there will be a game-day pep rally at 1:15 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27.
