The Gillespie High School softball team earned a win against the Calhoun Warriors on Friday, May 10, with a final score of 9-4.
Emma Gipson earned another win in the circle for Gillespie. Gipson gave up four runs on five hits, striking out six through seven innings of work. Audrey Gilman pocketed the loss for Calhoun. Gilman threw through two-thirds innings, giving up five runs over no hits and walking 10 Gillespie batters.
Gillespie had a hot night at the plate, with a collective 11 hits on the night. Paxton Reid had a spectacular night at the plate, going 2 for 3 with one run plated, one RBI, and drawing two walks. Laci Shuckenbrock and Delaney Taylor went 2 for 4 in the game with a collective 3 RBI. Ava Parish went 2 for 5 at the plate, with one run plated. Gipson was on fire in the cleanup spot, going 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 2 walks. Gipson homered during the seventh inning to add extra padding to Gillespie’s lead.
Gillespie drew a total of 11 walks in the game. Lauren Bertagnolli led Gillespie in the walk column, pocketing three. Macie Wright and Wrigley Wright had a hit in their winning efforts.
Gillespie extended their winning streak on Monday, May 13, with a 1-0 win over Pleasant Hill.
It was a pitching duel, with 22 strikeouts in the game. Gipson had a showstopping performance in the circle for Gillespie, allowing zero runs on three hits and striking out eleven. McKinley Lowe took the loss for Pleasant Hill, surrendering one run on four hits and striking out 11.
The Gillespie softball team could only muster up four hits in their win against Pleasant Hill. Wright went 1 for 3 at the plate with one RBI. Parish, Reid, and Gipson went 1 for 3 in the game. Sadie Sholtis and Shuckenbrock drew a walk each against Pleasant Hill’s pitching staff.
