The iconic hardware store that can be found on Route 4 in Gillespie has announced it will be closing its doors at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 8 as the owners retire.
A&G True Value owners Gene and Roganne Smalley thanked all of their customers over the years saying 41 years as owners was a “good run”. The couple thanked past and present employees and bragged of the many great people they met over their tenure.
Many citizens on social media expressed sadness and well wishes to the couple with countless people thanking the Smalley’s for their contributions to the community and their excellent customer service. Roganne Smalley thanked everyone for the great comments.
“[The comments] warm my heart and bring tears to my eyes,” Roganne posted on social media. “God bless you all.”
Big savings can be found on all remaining inventory until the end of the day.
Longtime employee Patti Loveless made an emotional post on social media saying Friday was the store’s last day and her last day after working for the Smalley’s for nearly 16 years. She said she enjoyed helping all the customers in the Gillespie area.
“We’ve had a lot of laughs over the years,” Loveless added. “I don’t know what lies ahead for me, but it was a pleasure serving all of you. I will miss it.”
She added that her most memorable time at A&G True Value was staying open the day of the tornado and running the hardware store without power in order to help the community with emergency supplies.
