MONDAY, OCTOBER 17, 2011

Officer was called to the middle of the 300 block of Park Ave. where it was reported that a red ATV was down in the creek and tearing up the sides of the creek.  Charges are pending.

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2011

Officer was called to the schools Superintendent’s office for an irate parent.  When the officer arrived, the parent had left.  The parent, Adam W. Muir, 35, Gillespie was located at his residence and was charged with disorderly conduct.

Angel A. Cuevas, 23, Benld was cited for operation of uninsured motor vehicle.

Ronald R. Arnold, 22, Standard City was arrested on a Montgomery County warrant for failure to appear on a possession of cannabis charge.  He was transported to District #18, where a Montgomery County deputy took custody.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2011

Officer was called to the 100 block of E. Maple where a male subject was calling a female at her office with obscene remarks.  He had called twice and when the officer called him to let him know charges could be filed, he got the answering machine but she did not receive anymore calls.

Officer took a report from a male who has a storage shed in the 500 block of W. Charles where someone had tried to break into it.  No entry was gained but the shed was damaged.

Officers were call to the 500 block of Lynn St. for a 13 year old male who had been drinking and did not feel well.  An ambulance was called and he was transported to a hospital.  He had, also smoked some catnip.  Later a vehicle was stopped for the subjects that had dropped him off at the residence.  A 17 year old female was cited for Illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver and Illegal Consumption of Alcohol by a minor.  The 13 year old male, also will be cited for Illegal Consumption of Alcohol by a minor.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2011

Michael A. Workman, 25, Wilsonville was cited for having no valid registration.

Officer took a report from a female age 15 who was walking in the 400 block of Park Ave. when a 16 year old female ran up behind her and hit her in the back of the head. Both females advised that the school would be notified and to stay away from each other.

A 13 year old male reported that 16 year old female driving a car back over his bicycle in the 300 block of E. Oak.  The female stated that there were 2 kids walking and the one on the bike was close to the road.  When they hollered, she stopped.  Then when she backed up to keep from hitting a yield sign, she ran over the front tire of the bike.  His mother did not want to sign any charges, just wanted the bicycle repaired.

Officer was called to the 600 block of W. Charles for a domestic.  The female was picking up her medication off the floor and the male advised he had knocked the bottle out of her hand as she was going to take all of the medication.  A caseworker for Locust Resource Center was called and the female was turned over to her.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2011

Damien H. Penrod, 26, Carlinville was cited for disobeying a stop sign.

James A. Claro, 54, Gillespie was arrested for possession of cannabis, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He posted bond and was released.

James R. Sawyer, 56, Gillespie was cited for Unlawful Burning.

Officer was called to E. Walnut and Springfield Rd. for a domestic where a 17 year old female reported that a male who was running on Springfield Rd. had hit her in the mouth from the domestic that started in the 500 block of E. Chestnut.  The male was contacted and told the officer that he female punched him in the back of the head while he was trying to get away and that is when she tore his shirt off is when his reached back to grab his shirt and he made contact with her, hitting her in the mouth.  Neither party wanted to file charges

Officer took a report from a female who was receiving harassing phone calls and text messages.  The male was contacted and told anymore contact with the female, he would be arrested.

Theodore H. Hopper, 39, Gillespie was arrested on a warrant out of Macoupin County for failure to appear on a building code violation.  He posted bond and was released.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2011

Sherry K. Smith, 48, Gillespie was arrested on a warrant out of Macoupin County for Failure to Appear on a harassment charge and another one out of Montgomery County for Failure to appear on a driving while suspended charge.  She was transported to Macoupin County jail.

Jonathan D. Overstreet, 27, Gillespie was arrested on a warrant out of Montgomery County for failure to appear on a possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was transported to Macoupin County jail.

Joseph S. Holley, 33, Williamsville was arrested for improper lane usage and driving while license are suspended.  He posted bond and was released.

Football, parade, and GHS Athletic Hall of Fame induction highlight Gillespie homecoming

A football game pitting the Gillespie Miners against the Staunton Bulldogs, a parade and the second annual induction ceremony for newly named members of the Gillespie High School Athletic Hall of Fame will highlight Homecoming next month.

The theme of this year’s celebration is The Roaring Twenties.

The parade will kick off on South Macoupin Street at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25. The parade will march to the high school where a pep rally is scheduled for 7 p.m., followed by the coronation of the Homecoming King and Queen at 7:15 p.m. There will be a Powder Puff Game/Cheer Section competition at 7:30 p.m., also on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

There will be a meet and greet with newly named members of the Athletic Hall of Fame at 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27, followed by the Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. Hall of Fame  inductees include Mike Viano, Jack Genet, Dennis Best, Barbella Magus, Sam Stewart, William & Florence Schmidt and Family, and Deb Olson and the ’93, ’94 and ’95 GHS softball teams. New members will be inducted during a 2 p.m. reception on Sunday, Sept. 29, in the high school gym.

The annual Homecoming dance is set for 7-9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 28 at the high school gym.

For GHS students, Homecoming activities will start well in advance of the Homecoming weekend festivities. Students from all four high school classes will work on building parade floats from 6-9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19, Monday, Sept. 23, and Tuesday, Sept. 24. Students will decorate hallways for Homecoming from 3-5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, and 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Saturday, Sept 21.

Monday, Sept. 23 will kick off a week of “dress-up” days for students. For Monday, the theme is Boas and Bowties. Tuesday, Sept. 24 will feature Glitz and Glitter. Wednesday, Sept. 25 is Rhyme Without Reason Day, and Thursday, Sept. 26, will feature Gangsters vs. Flappers. The dress-up theme for Friday, Sept. 27 will be School Spirit.

In addition to Wednesday’s pep rally following the parade, there will be a game-day pep rally at 1:15 p.m., Friday, Sept. 27.
