The BenGil area is gearing up to stretch out its Halloween celebration into the coming weekend and through next weekend ending with a family-friendly 1-mile and 5K run at Ageless. Halloween falls on Tuesday, October 31 and with most of the trick-or-treating and parades being held next week, weekend events before and after the holiday promise a spooky good time.
Residents who want to receive trick-or-treaters are asked to leave their porch lights on during trick-or-treating hours.
GILLESPIE
Trunk or treating:
Three Gillespie churches combine to host a joint Trunk or Treat event at three different locations on Sunday, Oct. 29. Participants are encouraged to collect candy from three parking lots of decorated cars and then join the Community Youth Group – WIRED at the United Methodist Church for free hot dogs and chips.
Times of the trunk or treat events are: First Christian Church in Gillespie, 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.; Trinity Baptist Church in Gillespie, 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.; and United Methodist Church in Gillespie, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The youth group will meet from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and all junior high and high school students are welcome.
Parade:
The Gillespie Lions Club is again sponsoring the annual Gillespie Halloween parade. The parade starts at Randy’s Market at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30, and concludes at the Gillespie Civic Center. The school band will lead the way along with members of the Gillespie police and fire departments. Treats for every child and additional prizes might also be won after parade costume judging contest.
Trick or treating:
The Gillespie City Council set trick-or-treat hours for 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 30, and Tuesday, Oct. 31.
Haunted house:
The Castles Forgotten Treasures on the corner of Main Street and Chestnut Street in downtown Gillespie will once again be hosting a haunted house. The haunted house is open 6:00 p.m. to midnight each Friday and Saturday in October. TheBenGilPost.com was not notified of prices, but last year the prices were $3 for kids and $5 for adults.
BENLD
Trunk or treat:
Trunk or Treat in Benld will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, October 29. Cars will be parked in the first block of South Main Street between the bank and the library. Build Benld and Hebenstreit Apartments will have popcorn and water in the library parking lot. A Halloween backdrop will be available for pictures at the library.
Parade:
The annual Benld Halloween Parade sponsored by the Italian Club of Benld and Benld Fire Department will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m. The parade route begins at the Benld Public Library and ends at the Benld Fire Station where treats are distributed to all participants.
Trick or treating:
Benld council members voted unanimously to set trick-or-treating hours from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, and Tuesday, Oct. 31.
WILSONVILLE
The Wilsonville board of trustees voted to set trick-or-treating hours from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 30, and Tuesday, Oct. 31.
AGELESS
Staunton:
Ageless-Staunton is hosting a Halloween pumpkin workout on Friday, Oct. 27 from 6 to 7 p.m. The workout is free and participants should bring a pumpkin to use as their weight for the one hour exercise class.
Gillespie:
Ageless-Gillespie will be hosting a Haunted 5k GloRun and 1-Mile Superhero Fun Run on November 4 at 5:30 p.m. at Ageless. Candy “pit stops” will be along the 1-mile route so make sure your kids bring their Halloween bags. Kids under 12 are free with a paid adult. Cost is $20, which includes water and a t-shirt. Must register by October 28 for a free t-shirt. All proceeds are going to the GHS SkillBuilders’ Club.
