Public Meeting on Closure of Coffeen Coal Ash Ponds
Coffeen School 200 School St., Coffeen, Illinois
Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 3 PM and 5:30 PM
Protection of our water resources will be dependent upon the construction permit submitted to Illinois Environmental Protection Agency for the safe closure of the coal ash areas at the closed Coffeen Power Plant.
Montgomery County residents are encouraged to attend this meeting sponsored by Illinois Power Generating Company concerning the closure of the Coffeen Power Plant Coal Ash Pond 1, Gypsum Stack Pond (GMF) Pond, and GMF Recycle Pond.
Leakage from coal ash ponds is a major concern for contamination of surface and ground waters. Coffeen Ash Pond 1 and GMF Stack Pond are to be closed in place and GMF Recycle Pond closed by removal to a landfill onsite.
Your input is essential for our community protection from toxic coal ash pollution.
See you at the Coffeen School on June 14, 2022, 3 PM and 5:30 PM,
Mary Ellen DeClue
