To the editor,
I wanted to take a moment to thank the Benld Police Department. Thank you to all the men and women who took the oath to protect and serve. We all know that it’s not the pay that brought you into this profession and to Benld.
Your devotion to the profession is recognized, especially when the tax base of the village provides you barely a living wage. Not to mention your own financial investment you had to make to provide yourself with gear and training to keep yourself safe.
Thank you for continuing to provide 100 percent in a thankless profession, under a continual microscope of scrutiny in an environment that progressively gets more unpredictable and violent.
Honestly, thank you.
I would also like to welcome the Gillespie Police Department to Benld. Thank you for accepting an assignment that you could have easily passed on. There is no requirement for you to provide us, the residents of Benld, with the continuation of 24/7 police protection. The profession of law enforcement has its challenges, most unknown to the general public. Feeling unwelcome should not be one of them.
Thank you to Gillespie Chief Jared DePoppe. I know, under your leadership, the Benld citizens will be served well and without bias. I know you to be a man of great honor, devotion, and loyalty and look forward to your department’s service.
Sincerely,
C. Scott Patterson
Proud resident of Benld
