Guest speaker is puppy raiser and Plainview resident Pat Sims
The Macoupin County Historical Society’s next meeting will feature the presentation “Making Miracles Happen One Puppy at a Time.”
Guest speaker and puppy raiser Pat Sims, of Plainview, will discuss her passion for raising puppies, which are utilized by a dog service organization, during MCHS’s August meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, August 5, in the Ruyle Building across from the MCHS Museum located at 920 Breckenridge St., Carlinville.
In 1997, Sims began raising puppies for Canine Companions for Independence, a dog service organization out of California that pairs service dogs with people who have disabilities, except for those who are visually impaired. She is currently raising her 15th puppy.
“I believe in the human/animal connection,” Sims said. “I am amazed how the service dogs I raise open doors, both literally and figuratively, for people with disabilities.”
Sims will have the current service dog she is training, a 7-month-old lab/golden retriever mix puppy, at the meeting along with photos and portraits of the other dogs she has raised in the past.
MCHS’s August meeting, like all of its events, is free and open to the public.
MCHS is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study of the area’s history and the preservation of Macoupin County memorabilia. Its home, the MCHS Museum, is located at 920 Breckenridge St. in Carlinville, Ill. Those wanting more information on the organization or its events can call 217-854-2850 or find the MCHS on Facebook.
