LAWSUITS

Marylon M. Walker, Springfield, has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Sarah Ashby, Wade Kruemmelbein, Angela Ashby and Perry Ashby, Virden, seeking $1,200 in alleged back rent, plus unspecified late fees, court costs and attorney fees, along with possession of premises located in the 400 block of South Church Street in Virden.

Decent Properties, LLC, has filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Penny Jo Clark seeking $550 in alleged back rent, plus attorney fees, court costs and possession of premises located in the 300 block of West Main Street in Staunton.

Dianna Schweppe, as owner, and Dana Allen, as property manage, have filed a forcible entry and detainer complaint against Harold and Nina Bertolis, seeking $1,759.01 in alleged back rent, plus possession of premises located in the 800 block of East Mill Street in Staunton.

SMALL CLAIMS

Orville Reynolds Plumbing Services, Jerseyville, is suing Christopher W. Reynolds, Greenfield, for $3,800, plus interest and attorney fees, allegedly owed for services rendered.

Central Macoupin County Rural Water District is suing Rebecca Scoggins, Jerseyville, for $275.88, plus court costs, allegedly owed for services rendered.

Fireside Eye Care, Benld, is suing Gerald Emhousen, Bunker Hill, for $968.78, plus court costs and attorney fees, allegedly owed for services rendered.

Fireside Eye Care, Benld, is suing Larry Keefer, Gillespie, for $365.76, plus court costs and attorney fees, allegedly owed for services rendered.

Consumer Collection Management is suing Amber Ann Wofford, Chesterfield, for $3,762.26 allegedly owed to Carlinville Area Hospital and $828.63 allegedly owed to Carlinville Family Healthcare, for a total of $4,590.99, plus court costs.

James Moffet, Modesto, is suing Jean Ann Haycraft, Modesto, for $522 for an Ameren bill and $146 for an Apple Creek Water District bill, plus court costs.

FELONIES

Jerry Reed, 58, Mount Olive, is charged with possession of a controlled substance in connection with an Oct. 13, 2015, incident in Mount Olive during which he allegedly possessed less than 15 grams of a substance containing heroin.

Cindy L. Collins, 36, Litchfield, is charged with possession of a controlled substance in connection with an Oct. 12, 2015, incident in Mount Olive during which she allegedly possessed less than 15 grams of a substance containing heroin.

Maranda T. Patterson, 32, Gillespie, is charged with possession of a controlled substance in connection with an Oct. 12 incident in Mount Olive during which she allegedly possessed less than 15 grams of a substance containing heroin.

Starla K. Rhodes, 53, is charged with possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine in connection with a Sept. 24, 2015, incident.

In separate cases, April L. Lozano, 30, and Albert C. Dougherty, 40, both of Lacygne, Kansas, are charged with possession of a controlled substance in connection with a Jan. 2 incident during which each of the defendants are alleged to have been in possession of less than 15 grams of a substance containing methadone.

Adolphine M. Gresham, 62, Auburn, is charged with possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine in connection with a Sept. 19, 2015, incident in Virden.

Carrie M. Eichen, 39, Wilsonville, is charged with possession of a controlled substance in connection with a Jan. 24 incident in Carlinville during which she allegedly possessed an unspecified amount of lorazepam.

Marlo G. Geninatti, 47, Carlinville, is charged with possession of less than five grams of methamphetamine in connection with an Oct. 29, 2015, incident.

MISDEMEANORS

Luke W. Allen, 39, Carlinville, is charged with domestic battery in connection with a Feb. 29 incident in Carlinville during which he allegedly struck a member of his household in the forehead with his fist.

Gary H. Rutledge, 66, Carlinville, is charged with aggravated assault in connection with a Feb. 29 incident during which he allegedly pulled out a knife and threatened another male at Spin to Win, Carlinville.

Johnelle B. Acup-Crawford, 43, Gillespie, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis in connection with a Feb. 4 incident in Gillespie during which the defendant allegedly possessed a metal “hitter” pipe for smoking marijuana and less than five grams of a substance containing cannabis.

Lowell E. White, 56, Virden, is charged with retail theft in connection with a Feb. 6 incident during which he allegedly shop-lifted a package of Milk Duds from the Dollar General Store, Virden, and was found to be in possession of a white “hitter” pipe for smoking marijuana.

Austin M. Freand, 29, Carlinville is charged with theft in connection with a Feb. 10 incident during which he allegedly exercised unauthorized control over $40 in cash belonging to another male with the intent to permanently deprive the owner of the use of the property.

Alexis R. Shaw, 19, Mount Olive, is charged with deceptive practice for allegedly writing a check for $624.95 to Madison Communications on Dec. 1, 2015, while knowing the bank would not honor the draft.

Laura R. Hunter, 21, Wentzville, Mo., is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis in connection with a Jan. 2 incident during which she allegedly possessed a multi-color wooden pipe for smoking marijuana and 2.5 to 10 grams of a substance containing cannabis.

Anthony Harris, 24, Springfield, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with a Jan. 2 incident during which he allegedly possessed a silver pipe for smoking marijuana.

Owen M. Carter, 18, Staunton, is charged with unlawful consumption of alcohol by a person under the age of 21 in connection with a Jan. 19 incident in Staunton.

Kinney E. Myles, Jr., 19, Carlinville, is charged with disorderly conduct in connection with a Jan. 30 incident in Benld during which he allegedly “committed an illegal act which alarmed and disturbed the public, and provoked a breach of the peace.”

Kirklund A. Davis, 18, Gillespie, is charged with criminal trespass to a residence in connection with a Feb. 14 incident during which he allegedly entered a residence in the 1400 block of South Macoupin Street in Gillespie without authority.

Casey J. Pruett, 25, Brighton, is charged with obstructing a peace officer in connection with a Feb. 14 incident in Carlinville during which the defendant refused to identify herself and refused to remain at the scene of a traffic stop initiated by a Carlinville police officer.

Guy M. Whitlow, 20, Pawnee, is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of cannabis in connection with a Nov. 26, 2015, incident in Virden during which he allegedly possessed an orange pipe for smoking marijuana and less than 2.5 grams of a substance containing cannabis.

TRAFFIC

Michael Barrett, 24, Gillespie, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol in connection with a Feb. 3 incident on Illinois Route 4 at West Walnut Street in Benld. Barrett also faces a traffic charge for alleged improper lane usage.

Macoupin County Clerk, Recorder & Elections Office temporarily relocating due to courthouse renovations

The Macoupin County Clerk, Recorder, and Elections Office will temporarily relocate across the street to the Macoupin County Voting Center, located at 227 E. First South in Carlinville, beginning Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

The move is necessary to accommodate HVAC system renovations in the Macoupin County Courthouse. The temporary relocation is expected to last until mid-January 2026.

During this time, all regular services — including vital records, recordings, elections, and general clerk functions — will continue to be available at the Voting Center. Office hours and contact information will remain the same.

However, due to limited space during the renovation, public searching and certain in-person services may be restricted. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the many online services offered through the Clerk’s website, including:

  • Searching and ordering vital records
  • Accessing property and land records
  • Viewing election information and forms
  • Checking registration and voter status

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we make these necessary improvements to the Courthouse,” said Macoupin County Clerk Pete Duncan. “Our goal is to continue serving the public efficiently and safely, whether in person or online.”
